In the heart of the old centre of Naples, in CicoCinquesanti, a few steps from the forum / agora of Neapolis, which is now Close to Piazza San Gaetano, Casa Latina lies on top of an ancient Greek Roman theatre *. The restoration work carried out by the owner – architects has encapsulated and preserved its ancient feel, through the enhancement and unearthing of the original construction and original materials. Furnishings and objects drawn from the rich artisan and iconographic heritage of the place show, over the two levels of the house, the overlapping of the Roman Catholic church on the ancient Latin structures of the Greek-Roman city, in a sedimentary Naples that offers a layer for each era.
On the lower floor, giving a wink to the theatre below, theatrical masks can be found in terracotta, the masks of Pulcinella, for some a descendant of Maccus, a character of the ancient Atella comedies, amphorae, jars, mosaics, collections of statues of the Roman pantheon and terracotta anphoras . The rooms “Cave canem” and “Cave felem”,are inspired by the domuslatina, with high ceilings and the intimate alcoves veiled by curtains and the walls finished in Neapolitan yellow stone. Upstairs, embellished by ancient wooden ceilings, the “Sancti” room is decorated with incense, terracotta and watercolours depicting the saints held dearest to the Neapolitan people and to whom the alley is named after, and the room “Aquaebenedictae” is adorned with ceramic stoups.
Here the beds are in the tatami style. A delightful terrace offers a beautiful view of the lane, which is absolutely full of atmosphere.
